SAM, through its parent TSI Group, has been granted authorisation under section 241 of the Land Transport Act 1998 to access the names and addresses of persons currently registered and held on the Motor Vehicle Register (MVR) for the purpose of providing information to its clients.
The law change that substantially restricts access to this information comes into force on 1st May 2011 and after this date only a handful of secondary providers will retain this authorisation.
"We're naturally pleased to report that our combined application with our partner Carjam has been successful," says Group general Manager Darryn Crothall. "Only a handful of secondary information providers will retain this authorisation from May onwards, and we have had to change a number of our legal documents and our procedures in order to meet the new requirements."
"SAM users have for some time been able to directly import MVR information into their SAM system, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Essentially we now need to ensure that clients who access vehicle owner information are either registered motor vehicle traders or other authorised entities before we can pass the data onto them."
Enquiries about SAM's MVR data service should be directed to Business Development Manager, Paul Wilkinson - 09 5832451 paul.wilkinson@sam.co.nz
TSI Group partners with www.carjam.co.nz to provide MVR information to clients.
